           What Do We Do?

When I was asked to work at Brookwood Inn in Statesville, I was unsure of what I would discover. In a short time, I saw that there was a need for the people who call the hotel their home. Over the course of a few short years, I have cleaned the hotel to make it a safe environment for families, many with young children.

My goal is to assist families through Acts of Kindness to have an enjoyable experience while they are at Brookwood Inn as they work to gain their own housing. The ministry provides everything from rental assistance to food for families who work and are trying to get ahead so that they can succeed

Families at the hotel are provided with utilities, internet services, and running water while they stay here. Everyone pays for the room they stay in whether it is weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly. Many families help each other so that they can work and have daycare in order to save as much money as possible. I work closely with the Iredell-Statesville School System and the McKinney-Vento program as well as several churches and businesses in the area to ensure that the families here have what they need so that they feel like they are at home instead of in a motel. My goal, with the help of the community, is to help all of the families here obtain a house that they can call home.

I try to provide as many events as possible, along with the assistance of outside sources. We enjoy Christmas parties, the story of Christ, Bible studies, budgeting classes, dinners, clothing drives, and other fun activities so that children don't feel like they are in a hotel.
